OASIS OpenDocument Format (ODF) ya es un estándar para documentos ofimáticos electrónicos, con amplio apoyo en la votación y ningún voto en contra.

Como dice la asociación impulsora del formato, ODF Alliance:

“Approval of the OpenDocument Format by ISO marks an important milestone in the effort to help governments solve the very real problem of finding a better way to preserve, access and control their documents now and in the future,” said Marino Marcich, Executive Director of the ODF Alliance. “There’s no doubt that this broad vote of support will serve as a springboard for adoption and use of ODF around the world. At the same time, it also represents a milestone for the ODF Alliance, which in just weeks has seen a groundswell of support and continues to grow everyday.”

El nuevo formato XML de MS para su futuro Office también está siguiendo el mismo proceso de estandarización, y puede que pronto sea tambien estándar. Eso sí, no será libre ni plenamente abierto, pero algo es algo, la competencia está haciendo a MS dar pasos antes impensables con su antiguos formatos de documentos binarios.

Yo ya tengo claro que formato elegir… La comparación de los formatos habla por sí sola, y deja poco lugar a las dudas, pero aunque no fuera así: ¡La información quiere ser libre!.
